Woods, Digiulian Flash U.S. Nationals
Daniel Woods and Sasha Digiulian were the top American finishers at the SCS Open National Championship at Momentum gym in Sandy, Utah.

Stevie Haston Crushes Greenspit
Last week Stevie Haston and Laurence Gouault Haston made the 1,000km, 10 hour drive from their home in Ariege in the French Pyrenees to the northern Italian Valle dell'Orco near the town of Ceresole Reale. Their objective; to repeat the roof crack of Greenspit, first climbed by the Swiss climber Didier Berthod and given a French grade of F8b+.

Before you leave for your summer vacations and take a break from the school year, please let us know that you will be attending our classes next school year by filling out a new registration form. This applies to new, as well as returning students, so if you have been taking classes with us this year, you still need to fill out a new form for fall of 2009.

Russian Duo Climbs Stunning High-Altitude Pillar
Mikhail Mikhailov and Alexander Ruchkin completed the first ascent of a 6,134-meter peak in Sichuan, China, by a superb, 1,000-meter rock pillar. After continuous storms kept the two Russians off their planned route on the southeast face of 6,618-meter E. Gongga, they switched to the lower and steeper rock climb on Point 6,134m to the northwest.
Interesting Chalkball/Chalkbag ideas from 8a.nu

Top climbers often put a chalk ball in their chalkbag in order to improve chalking. Mammut have developed a new chalkbag with a refillable chalk ball inside. 8a have taken this idea further by attaching the chalk ball so that it can be flipped outside.This could make you climb harder grades;
1. Less bending of elbow might increase blood-circulation
2. Pushing ball instead of squeezing is less fatigue
3. Quicker chalking in critical situations
4. Dry holds and put tick marks on lead
5. An elastic cord, as Klättermusen have, improves 1 - 4.

At an award ceremony in Chamonix, France, three climbs from 2008 were honoured with Piolets d’Or for their originality, commitment, and technical difficulty.

Heart of Steel 2009
A good number of our team members were either present or competing at Boston Rock Gym's Heart of Steel Bouldering Competition. Later, a video was made, documenting what went on behind the scenes and on the day of the competition. Enjoy.

The great news came today from Rumney: Mike Foley climbed China Beach 5.14b!!! He is the youngest (16 years old) to climb this masterpeace, which has been completed by only a handfull of best climbers of the country.
