Mike Foley at USA CLimbing Nationals

Alex Huber's Magic Summer
As reported in the September 2, 2008 NewsWire, this summer Alexander Huber laid siege to the Tyrolean and French Alps, beginning by establishing, ground-up, two 5.14a multipitch routes, Sansara and Feuertaufe, and ending with a free solo of the Swiss Route (5.10c, 400m) on the Grand Capucin.

The team did an outstanding job the USA Climbing SCS Nationals which took place from July 11-13 2008.
Mike Foley got 1st place, Augy Cohn got 4th place, Katie Lamb got 6th place, Olivia Metcalf got 28th place, and Olin Richter got 28th place. Great job representing Team Waimea!
Great Job At Worlds!
Team Waimea member and coach, Mike Foley, made his debut at the IFSC Youth World Championship on the 28th of August. He successfully made his presence known by finishing in 12th place in his category of the strongest 56 climbers his age in the world. Congratulations, Mike!
Crimea Mountains
The Crimean peninsula is situated in the South-Eastern Europe, it is part of the Ukraine. Its area is 27 000 square kilometers. It is washed by the Black Sea and the See of Azov. The administrative border in the north stretches along the Perekop Swell. Northern part of Crimea is flat (so called Steppe Crimea), southern part is covered by Crimean mountains (so called Mountainous Crimea). A narrow zone that stretches along the Southern feet of Crimean Mountains is called the Southern Coast of the Crimea . In the Northern part climate is moderate, dry on the Southern Coast it is Mediterranean . Average temperature in January is 1° С in the North and 4° С in the South, in July it is 24° С . Precipitations vary from 300-500 mm/year in the north to 1000-1200 mm in the mountains. Rivers are shallow. Main rivers include Chernaya (Black), Belbek, Kacha, Alma, Salgir.

20:02: Caldwell Frees Magic Mushroom in a Day
Less than a month after making the first free ascent of Magic Mushroom (VI 5.14, 2,900') on El Capitan with Justen Sjong (read the May 19 and May 20, 2008 NewsWires), Tommy Caldwell returned to lead every pitch free on June 8 in 20:02, with his wife Beth Rodden belaying (and power-jugging) in support.

First 8c+ On-Sight in History
Patxi Usobiaga has sent "Bizi Euskaraz" on sight. It is the first ascent of this route which Patxi has proposed as a serious 8c+, but always waiting for the opinion of future repeaters.

Bouldering Championships!
There was a huge bouldering comp at Metro Rock on November 11 -12.
Some of our Team Waimea members took part in it.
Some did well, some did really well and everyone had lots of fun.

Vasya Vorotnikov climbed Broken Jaws on Sunday Oct. 14.!!!
It it may be the first 5.15 in the US if confirmed by others who will climb it.

Mike Foley on China Beach (5.14b)
The great news came today from Rumney: Mike Foley climbed China Beach 5.14b!!! He is the youngest (16 years old) to climb this masterpeace, which has been completed by only a handfull of best climbers of the country.
